  What is a Center For Independent Living?   

      A Center for Independent Living is a non-profit organization which provides

persons with disabilities  with advocacy, information and referral, peer support, and independent living skills training.  Independent Living Centers participate  in the progress in which individuals with disabilities define their goals and work toward   reaching those goals. 

  Who do Centers for Independent Living Serve?

       Service is provided to persons with disabilities regardless of  the type of disability,

         religion, nationality,  race, or sex. 

   What will TRAC do for me?

       Staff from TRAC will work with you to determine what your independent living

         goals and objectives are.  

   What do you mean by disability?

        According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a disability is a physical or

          mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.  Activities

          which consist of , walking, breathing, performing manual tasks, hearing, speaking,

          caring for oneself, learning capabilities, and working.   (taken from ADA information)

 

   How are you funded?

       TRAC is mostly funded by the United States Department of Education, Rehabilitation

         Service Administration.

 

   Do I have to join or pay a fee to receive your services?

        There is no cost to you for our services, but before TRAC serves you with peer

          support, advocacy, and independent living services, we do ask that you sign up as a

          TRAC consumer.

   If I need a job or funding assistance, can TRAC help me? 

          Our role is to help you become empowered and develop self-determination.  For

          funding assistance and employment opportunities we use our Information and Referral

          to put you in touch with people who could possibly assist you with achieving your

          goal.

   Do I have to come in to fill out paperwork?

       TRAC staff would always love to meet the consumer; however, TRAC staff

         understands that there are some cases in which it is not possible.  In cases such as

         these, TRAC staff would fill out paper work over the phone and then mail to you or

         legal  guardian for a signature of the person TRAC would be representing.
