ADA 15
Year Birthday Celebration
TRAC is proud to announce the fifteenth anniversary celebration
of the “Americans With Disabilities Act”
(ADA). Through a diligent and cooperative effort of
TRAC and the Tennessee Aquarium, this event is completely free,
open to the public, and all are welcome to attend. This
celebration will be held on:
Tuesday, July 26, between the hours of
11am and 2pm at
The
Tennessee Aquarium—One Broad Street—Chattanooga, TN
There will be great food and door prizes provided by local
vendors, and an ADA birthday celebration highlighted by keynote
speaker, Attorney Bill Brown who took the Lane vs Tennessee case
all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court ensuring victory for all
persons with a disability.
TRAC is a firm supporter of the ADA and proud to sponsor this
celebration. The Americans for Disabilities Act has literally
opened the hearts and minds of Americans by allowing for
independent living among millions of Americans with disabilities.
This Year’s celebration will feature two musical talents that
are becoming well known both locally, and nationally.
Singer/songwriter, J. P. Williams has made festival and concert
appearances with such names as Bruce Hornsby, Mary Chapin
Carpenter, Charlie Daniels, Credence Clearwater Revival, Ricky
Skaggs, and Edwin McCain. JP’s newest CD release, “Where’s
the Stage”, is available through CD Baby.
Another singer/songwriter, Stephen Owen is a veteran to such
festivals as the Strawberry Festival in Dayton, Tennessee as well
as Nashville and the Chattanooga area. Stephen’s CD, “Country
on the Mountain” is truly superb. Both of these young artist are
a tribute to how the ADA has opened the door for independent
living in America. Their visual impairment has not stopped them
from pursuing and achieving greatness. There will be many
organizations on hand to demonstrate their services.
Persons unable to provide their own transportation to this
event may call 423-698-9038, and CARTA will arrange for

Green Light For
More Ramps
TRAC is excited, because
we recently received the green light to build 80 ADA -
compliant wheelchair ramps in the city of Chattanooga. The
ra mps
will be funded by a grant through
the City of Chattanooga's HUD Community
Development Block Grant Program (Signing grant, Executive
Director, Mark Woolfall with Juliett Thornton (left) and Van
Veller (right)). In order to be considered
for one of these ramps, the following criteria must be met:
ramps are built for residential use only, on private property (no
commercial or rental property), in the city of Chattanooga, and
for individuals listed as property owners. In addition to
the above criteria, ramps are also built according to specific
income guidelines. While most ramps are built on a
"first come first served" basis, individuals who are
deemed "most medically fragile" will receive top
priority. This is a great opportunity for TRAC and our city
of Chattanooga residents. TRAC has already started taking
requests for this opportunity, and the list is growing
rapidly. If you or someone you know needs a ramp and you
live in the city of Chattanooga, you may qualify for one of these
ramps. To get more information about TRAC's Home Access
Program, please contact Van Veller at 423-892-4774.
